JACK ADAMS


1987 - Jack ADAMS, Saskatoon, SASK.

Introduction: Born October 18, 1921. Wife: Olive. He is the son of Arthur E. Adams, a perennial Saskatchewan champion in the 1930s. Played the 1 and 3/4 turn right handed (Shoes: Allen). Lived in Halifax from 1945-1948, Ottawa 1948-51. Rivers, Manitoba 51-52 (1 year), Overseas Germany and England, Detroit, Michigan 3 years (1957-60), Montreal 1961 until June 1966, Ottawa from 1966 - 1972. Moved to B.C. Oct 1972. Back to Saskatoon sept 1976.

Achievements: Was 1937 Junior Boys champion of Saskatchewan. Maritime Provinces champion in 1945. Resided and played horseshoes in Saskatchewan, Nova Scotia, Quebec, Ontario and B.C. (Actually pitched horseshoes in every province plus N.W.T.). Finished 4th at the 1965 Quebec provincial championships. Served as Regional Director for Canada towards the NHPA since 1960. Member of the Canadian Association executive council since 1945. Co-ordinator or President of the Canadian Association from 1975 to 1985. Founded Horseshoe Canada in 1979. Helped create the Horseshoe Canada Hall of Fame in 1987 and served as chairman since then. Was a member of the executives of Sask. and B.C. associations.

Inducted into the Saskatchewan Horseshoe Pitching Hall of Fame in 1983. Inducted into the NHPA Hall of Fame in 1984. His father Arthur Adams, 12 times Saskatchewan champion, was also inducted into the NHPA Hall of Fame in 1981. The only father/son combination into the Hall of Fame. Inducted into the Horseshoe Canada Hall of Fame in 1987 as a charter member. Inducted into the Saskatchewan Sports Hall of Fame on June 19, 1999.
