JEAN MARKLE


1987 - Jean MARKLE, Hamilton, ONT.
Born (Jean Palmer) July 22, 1938 in Clapham, London (England). Came to Canada from England in 1961. Married Larry Markle in 1968. In 1969, became assistant to George Schummer who was President of the National Association. In 1973 was elected Secretary/Treasurer of the Canadian National Horseshoe Pitchers Association. From then on and realizing Larry's love of the sport, she was really happy seeing all the pitchers competing and having fun and wanted to do what she could to promote the game. Was Secretary/Treasurer of Horseshoe Canada from 1973 to 1984. Was Treasurer from 1979-1991 (longest serving officer in one job), and Tournament Director for 19 years. 1973-Assistant Regional Director to Jack Adams for NHPA 1973-97 Held the following positions in Horseshoe Ontario: (Sec.-Treas., Tournament Director, Membership chairperson, Games related items). Wrote a manual on "How to run a succesful tournament" which was adopted by Horseshoe Ontario in 1993 and distributed to all Canadian Provinces. Put on seminars for clubs accross Ontario and assisted them in setting up tournaments and keeping ringer percentages. Also inducted in Horseshoe Ontario Hall of Fame. 1995 Received a LifeTime Membership from Horseshoe Canada. Member of the Organizing Committee for 1997 World Tournament in Kitchener.
