LAURENCE JOHNS


1992 - Laurence JOHNS, Grande Prairie, ALB.
Born in Peace River, Alberta July 24, 1937. Organized Grande Prairie's first major tournament in 1969. Helped establish the Peace Country Horseshoe Club in 1976. Was instrumental in the creation of the Western Classic in 1986. One of the greatest "builder" of the Alberta H.P.A. for which he established annual provincial awards, established a Provincial League Program, a provincial Hall of Fame, etc. Compiled and prepared Canada's first Horseshoe Pitching Manual done up for the AHPA. Conducted first technical horseshoe clinic in May 1983. Horseshoe Canada President in 1986 and 1987, then Tournament Director. Helped the AHPA to obtain grants from the Alberta Government.
