RUSS CHRISTOPHER

2006 - Russ CHRISTOPHER, Pambrun, SK

Born January 16, 1923 in Swift Current, Saskatchewan, Russell Christopher farmed in the Pambrun area most of his life. Initially he played horseshoes at local sports day meets, not aware of the provincial organization until he joined in 1990.

He won the Canadian Elders (Sr Men's 30') championship from 1992 through 1997 and again in 1999. He holds most of the records in that division at the Nationals, including the high overall average of 75.5% set in 1996. He had a high game of 92.3% in 1999. He competed at the World Tournament from 1993 to 1997 where he finished 2nd twice (1993 and 1996), 3rd once (1994, within one game of the title), 4th once and 7th once. Russ is no doubt the best player we had in that division at the World Tournament. He also won the Saskatchewan Provincial Championships 6 times from 1992 to 1998, and the Western Canada Classic 3 times between 1993 and 1998. Due to family health problems his participation from 2000 to date has been limited to mostly club play. Russell was always a gentleman on and off the courts and a pleasure to compete with at all levels of competition.
