Defending champion Tom Gallina was not as sharp at the 1999 Nationals but in that 14th round game, he showed why he had won the title the previous two years. Despite trailing 23-4 he came back strong with a stretch of 34 ringers out of 36 shoes, which brought the score up to 29-25. But it happened in the middle of a 9 consecutive doubles string by eventual champion, 77-year-old Howard Weitzel, who averaged his age in this game! Howard won his last Canadian Men's title in 2000 at the age of 78!!
