At the banquet following the 2009 Canadian Championships, Steve Hohl was inducted into the Horseshoe Canada Hall of Fame as an outstanding player. He gave a memorable speech.
Steve is a recordman not only in the Canadian Juniors division but also in the Men's with the game that gave him the
1983 Canadian Men's title over Fernand Thibeault (see the Canadian records).
Steve was also World Junior Boys champion in 1978.
The great picture above shows the 1978 World Junior Boys Championship group. They are:
Back row (L-R): Terry Conrad, Joe Merritt, Brian Simmons, Rick Howe, Stan Griggs and Jonathan Williams.
Front row (L-R): Bob Bartlet, Randy Hymer, Brian Neff (1977 champion), Steve Hohl (1978 champion), Paul Roberts and Dave Simmet
At least five of them are still active today. Brian Simmons and Stan Griggs actually played against each other (31 years later) at the recent 2009 World Tournament in Class Play.
Brian went on to qualify for the Championships and finished runner-up to Alan Francis after losing a record 40-point game that went 140 shoes!
