1970 Canadian Championships - Dauphin, Manitoba.
Three Canadian that are members of the NHPA Hall of Fame (from L-R):
Jack Adams, Bert Snart and
Elmer Hohl
Bert Snart, also known as "Mr Horseshoes" is the man responsible for bringing the Canadian Horseshoe Pitching Championships to Manitoba for the province's centennial in 1970.
The championships were then held outside of Ontario for the first time. Without surprise, Elmer Hohl won the championships, followed by young Robert Riehl, Ken Smith and Manitoba's Lloyd Gemmell (see the
following picture where the top 4 are pictured from R-L).
The trophy awarded to the men's champion is called the "Bert Snart Trophy" and was first awarded on that occasion.
Jack Adams was to be chairman of the Canadian association from 1975 up to the creation of Horseshoe Canada in 1979 of which he's the founding president.
Under his leadership, it became a real national association with the Canadian Championships hosted in alternance every year between East and West.
