Beaches Horseshoe Club - 1950s

This picture was taken in the 1950s and shows a group of players from the Beaches Horseshoe Club, near Toronto.
Three great volunteers can be identified on the picture:
Back row (standing): Ted Burrows (4th from left) and Herb Mann (5th from left)
Middle row (sitting): Bert Campbell (5th from left)
All three, involved in the Toronto area, are former Presidents of the Canadian association.
Bert Campbell was Secretary-Treasurer from 1931 to 1938 and President from 1952-54.
Herb Mann, born in Galt but later resident of Toronto, was President from 1950-52.
Ted Burrows, a former principal of Lakeview Beach School, was Vice-President from 1951-53, Secretary-Treasurer from 1954-58 and President from 1958-60. While Bert Campbell finished 9th in the very first Canadian Singles Championships (1929), Burrows was probably the best players of the three. He placed 12th in the B class (with 52.4%) at the 1956 World Tournament in Murray, Utah.
The Beaches club was the winner for the 1950 season in the Toronto & District horseshoe league. In 1952, the officials for Beaches were Bert Campbell (President) and Ken Bowerman (Secretary). Bert Campbell, who was still the club contact in 1956, was honored by the CHPA on August 6, 1956. Six days later, CBLT showed on TV what they had filmed at the Beaches club.
Other known pitchers from the Beaches Club are: Jim Gourlie (winner of a tournament for class B in Riverdale in 1950), Jack Ritchie and Harold Towner (who failed to make class A at the 1952 Canadians, though Towner made it later in 1953), Roy Wilkinson, Jim Steele (at the 1953 Canadians) and even Jim Daniels (at the 1956 Canadians).
