1985 Canadian Championships - First shoes pitched

This picture was taken by the late Ed Murray at the 1985 Canadian Championships. Held at the Khaki Club in Wellesley, it shows the traditional opening throws by dignitaries. On the picture we can see Jack Adams pitching (then Horseshoe Canada President), with Bob Fanjoy (Horseshoe Ontario president) right behind him. It is with sadness that we just learned the passing of Bob Fanjoy on June 26, 2009 at age 70.

On the picture we can see two more dignitaries to the left. The tall athlete behind is Scott Stevens, famous NHL defenseman who won 3 Stanley Cups with the New Jersey Devils. For more information on Scott Stevens see: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scott_Stevens. Scott is originally from Kitchener and his grand-father Earl Stevens was one of the participants in the 1985 Canadian Championships (Men's G class). Earl Stevens was also one of the original members of the Khaki Club who helped in the formation of the horseshoe club.
