This picture was taken by Ed Murray at the 1983 Canadian Championships, held at the Kitchener-Waterloo Khaki Club in Wellesley. The club is now home of the Elmer Hohl Memorial Horseshoe Courts and have hosted numerous major tournaments, including the annual Elmer Hohl Ringer Classic.
The 1983 Canadian Championships marked a new era as a younger generation of pitchers emerged. Steve Hohl (age 20) went on to win the title, defeating his father Elmer Hohl (defending champion) in the semi-finals, and Fernand Thibeault in the finals. The last game between Steve and Fernand still stands as the longest game ever pitched at the Canadians (138 shoes).

Andre Leclerc who was eliminated by Steve in 1983, won his first Canadian title in 1984 at age 19.
