1965 World Champions from the Kitchener-Waterloo Region

This picture was published in a Kitchener-Waterloo newspaper following a special gathering to celebrate our first World Champions. (From L-R):
Ross Stevenson (1965 Junior World champion with 65.1%),
Gerald Roeder (1965 B Junior champion with 62.9%)
Dennis Hohl (1965 B Junior runner-up with 50.0%)
Elmer Hohl (1965 Men World champion with 84.6%)
1965 marks the first year Canadians were crowned World Champions. Held in Keene, New Hampshire, it all started in the Juniors where they swept the two top classes. Though he played in the Juniors B, Gerry Roeder's average was the second highest of all the juniors that year (behind Ross Stevenson). Note that most of the juniors were pitching from 40 feet back then. Elmer Hohl then won the first of his 6 World titles.

It should be noted here that Dennis Hohl set several new World Records in the Junior Division the following year (1966 World Tournament). The records were set in a game with Farron Eiseman that lasted 108 shoes, totalled 134 ringers and 114 cancelled ringers (all those being records). Dennis Hohl's 67 ringers in that game was a also a record. Dennis is Stan Hohl's son. The records were broken a few years later. Ross Stevenson was also a star performer at the 1968 World Tournament where he placed 9th in the Men's division with 77.8% average, and the 1972 World Tournament in Greenville, Ohio where he won the strong B class with 73.4%.
