This picture was taken by Dianne Beck at the 2006 Canadian Championships held in Manitou Beach, Saskatchewan. We can see the new Men's Canadian Champion, Duncan McKenzie, in action against Alberta Champion Terry Steinke.
Duncan McKenzie, a master of the 1 and 3/4 turn, recorded the best performance ever for a Maritime player with an overall average of 69.3% and high game of 90.9%. Duncan, who has worked many years in Cape Breton's mines, is a "young" retired man. He achieved his goal by winning the Canadian Men's title, but knowing his determination, he'll certainly set more goals.
In his first appearance at the Worlds, Duncan qualified in the Championship group at the
2006 World Tournament where he finished 13th!
He beat Walter Ray Williams 43-36 with a 72.4% and shot 66.7% against World Champion Alan Francis, which was the 3rd best game Alan faced in the whole tournament! Alan's best opposition came from Mark Mauthe and Gale Greene who both shot 68.8% at him. Only 7 men could pitch over 60% against the World Champion and our 3 Canadians did! Ironically, Duncan switched to the new "Alan Francis shoe" this year.
