The annual Merv Lichty Memorial is held in memory of one of the greatest volunteer
we've had in horseshoes. The 2002 champions repeated their feat this year. They are:
Stan Leis (Men), Sylvianne Moisan (Women) and Drew Becker (Juniors). Drew beat Alex Vienneau (the winner of Mixed B Class) in a
special match. Joanna Vienneau, Canadian Junior Girls champion from Kitchener, came 2nd in the Mixed E Class.
Again there were some great games in the Mixed A Class.
The best was the last round game between the two World Champions. Sylvianne (87.25%) beat Drew (83.33) 42-28 in 102 shoes pitched!
They both saved their best game of the tournament for that meet. Meanwhile, Stan Leis (82.65%) beat Bob Jones (77.6%) 42-33 in 98 shoes!
Stan had defeated Sylvianne 41-39 (round 5) in 80 shoes, averages being 78.8% vs 77.5%. Sylvianne, who not too surprisingly pitched more shoes than anybody, also received serious opposition from ...her husband Andre who lost 32-42 in 82 shoes recording a 76.8% while Sylvianne had 81.7%.
