Back to Main PageThe 19th annual Elmer Hohl Ringer Classic was held at the K.W. Khaki Club on May 26-27, 2007. There was a total of 142 participants coming from many regions of Ontario, and from Quebec, New York, Illinois and California! There was no Special Mixed Doubles tournament (usually held) on Friday night this year, but there was a very special presentation at the traditional Saturday night Banquet. Besides the great meal, the guests were treated to a special film showing Elmer Hohl and the famous O'Keefe commercial aired in 1974 where he threw a perfect ringer circling a beer bottle AND the stake. This special presentation was introduced and commented by Steve Hohl, who told about his souvenirs of the commercial. Another film showed various pictures of Elmer Hohl taken from 1957 to 1980s (made by Drew and Tami Becker). Great emotions for everybody present, including Hilda Hohl. On September 4, 2007, it will be 20 years since the great Elmer Hohl passed away.
Long time pitcher and top contender, Stan Leis won a well-deserved first EHRC title in the Men's division. Stan's only loss was to Steve Hohl on the very first round. Steve was averaging 70% and was the only undefeated after Saturday's play.
Tom Gallina, who had a knee surgery during the off-season, dropped out on Sunday when the walkways became slippery following some heavy rain.
In the Women's division, it went down to the last shoes again between defending champion Sandy Janssens and Sylvianne Moisan. The game lasted 98 shoes and Sylvianne, helped by 79 ringers, won 40-37 after a few fourdeads while the score was 39-37!
Keith Lindsay won a playoff from John Snell to win the Senior Men 30' division. New York's John Perry (Junior Boys), Joanna Vienneau (Junior Girls), Nicholas Arnold (PeeWee Boys) and McKayla Olmstead (PeeWee Girls) are the other champions crowned.
