2008 Merv Lichty Memorial horseshoe pitching tournament
2008 MERV LICHTY MEMORIAL
Sept. 20 - K-W Khaki Club, Wellesley, ONT.
The 11th annual tournament held in memory of the late Merv Lichty, one of Ontario's greatest volunteers, was held
on a beautiful sunny day. The following three champions were declared:
Junior Champion - Bonny Dicaire (she edged Nicholas Arnold in 3 games)
Ladies Champion - Sylvianne Moisan
Men's Champion - Andre Leclerc
The longest game involved both Quebec and Ontario Men's provincial champs. Andre Leclerc (78.1) defeated Ron Parisien (73.2) 41-32 in 82 shoes pitched. Andre (75.9) also edged defending champion
Drew Becker (72.2) 40-34 during round 6 of 7. Andre also lost with 72.2% against Sylvianne's 81.5% the previous round
by a score of 41-24. His other loss was to Marie Hartman's high game (round 2). Lavergne Butcher won the Mixed Class B helped by his high game pitched against runner-up and high average man Andy Kutsch.
In the Mixed C class, John Murphy also pitched his high game to win the deciding last game vs the impressive Larry Markle.
Hamilton's Trena MacLean and Butch Blancher both went undefeated to win their respective class (Mixed D and Mixed E).
Bruce Davis won a close playoff game (22-19) over Ernie Pellow to capture Mixed Class F. Congratulations and thanks to all participants, the volunteers (tournament directors, scorekeepers ...) and our hosts.
