2009 Merv Lichty Memorial horseshoe pitching tournament
2009 MERV LICHTY MEMORIAL
Sept. 19 - K-W Khaki Club, Wellesley, ONT.
Despite the beautiful weather, the 12th annual tournament held in memory of the late Merv Lichty, attracted only 23 participants (including 4 from Quebec).
The following three champions were declared:
Junior Champion - Jake Fulton
Ladies Champion - Sylvianne Moisan
Men's Champion - Andre Leclerc
Like in 2008, the longest game involved both Quebec and Ontario Men's provincial champs.
This time Andre Leclerc (73.6) defeated Drew Becker (65.3) 45-29 in 72 shoes pitched. Andre also recorded 31 points in his only loss, to Sylvianne in 66 shoes.
Robert Waterman won the Mixed Class B in a playoff over Ivan Kristofic. Both men shot 60% but Robert won 27-24.
The two other class winners went undefeated: George Brouwer, who averaged 50.5% to win Class C, and Dean Turvey who captured Class D with 24.5%.
Congratulations and thanks to all participants, the volunteers (tournament directors, scorekeepers ...) and our hosts. Next year's tournament will be combined with the Bernie Baetz Memorial, to honour two of Ontario's greatest volunteers.
