Marvin Ellison is one of the best horseshoe pitchers Canada ever had. He participated 26 times at the Canadian Championships from 1976 to 2004, touching 4 decades. Tied with Elmer Hohl who also participated 26 times, only 3 men have played more times at the Nationals: Jack Adams, Larry Markle and Dean McLaughlin.
He's a member of "Saskatchewan's Big Three" made of Howard Weitzel, Colin Finnie and Marvin. From 1974 to date, the Saskatchewan Provincials was won by either one of those 3 except 3 times: 1978 by Fred Sorenson, 1980 and 1985 by Al Ross. Marvin has been 6 times Saskatchewan champion: 1979-82-83-87-89-92. Howard (with 4) and Colin (6) combined for 10 Canadian Men's titles, starting with Howard's win in 1990.
But Marvin Ellison is one of the best 4 players not to win the title (along with Fernand Thibeault, Eric Beaudoin and Robert Riehl). He was runner-up in 1991, 1992 and 1994 and lost in the semi-finals in 1989 and 1990. His high overall average at the Nationals was 72.3% in 1989.
Marvin is the husband of the late Sharon Ellison who was Horseshoe Canada President from 1991 to 1993. They both played horseshoes starting in the early 1970s. Their kids also played in the Juniors and Charolette is still active, serving until recently as Horseshoe Saskatchewan's main contact. Sharon was inducted into Horseshoe Saskatchewan's Hall of Fame in 1985 and Horseshoe Canada Hall of Fame in 1995
(See Sharon Ellison's profile).
Marvin Ellison, also a very good sports, is no doubt worthy of being inducted into the Hall of Fame.
