Febr. 2, 2012 - Sadly, Murray Rayner passed away at the Nanaimo hospital around January 17, 2012 (more details to come). Murray was a horseshoe pitcher for almost his whole life and was inducted into the BCHA Hall of Fame in 2001. See the toll of time section.

Jan. 12, 2012 - We are sad to report the passing of John Hasell, from Victoria, on December 13, 2011. John's huge contribution to the game was the creation of the Shoes program (1994) and the Canstats program in 1996. See the toll of time section.

Jan. 4, 2012 - All the best for 2012! Our January picture of the month shows the 1952 Canadian Championships group.

Dec. 9, 2011 - The Alberta Horseshoe Pitchers Association has a new website, that can be visited here: http://www.albertahpa.com.

Dec. 4, 2011 - The new Canstats section is updated every week. The look has also changed a little bit.

Nov. 15, 2011 - Canstats averages updated as of November 15, 2011. See also a newspaper article published in the Brockville Recorder & Times titled: Ontario tops Quebec in battle of ringers. The article written by Megan Burke reports about the second Ontario-Quebec Ringer Shootout held in Toledo on November 13. Thanks to the hosts, the Toledo Legion and horseshoe club, and the main organizers Don & Sadie Foster.

Nov. 8, 2011 - Major changes in the Canstats section! The whole database is now online with features providing the opportunity to search and find sanctioned tournament results reported to Canstats, as well as members' individual stats. Links allow you to "surf" from individual stats to tournament results or vice-versa.

Nov. 1, 2011 - Our November picture of the month shows a 1926 horseshoe game in a typical Saskatchewan prairie. Saskatoon will be hosting the 2012 Canadian Horseshoe Championships from July 11-15.

Oct. 8, 2011 - Our October picture of the month features the 2011 Canadian Championships' opening ceremonies. Canstats updated as of Oct. 6, 2011. More tournament results have been added in the "Major Tournament Results" section.

Sept. 6, 2011 - Canstats updated as of Sept. 6, 2011. More tournament results have been added in the "Major Tournament Results" section.

Sept. 1, 2011 - Some pictures have been added in the 2011 Canadian Championships section.

August 31, 2011 - Members who have been around since more than two decades probably remember Eric Beaudoin and his father Yvon. Many members of the Beaudoin family pitched horseshoes actively in tournaments from 1981 up to 1993. Sadly, four family members were killed late Saturday August 27, 2011 in a helicopter crash in a wooded area south of Quebec City. The victims are: Yvon Beaudoin (age 65), his wife Marie-Paule Fréchette (67), their son Eric Beaudoin (43), and Eric's daughter, 8-year-old Mélizandre Beaudoin. August 19, 2011 - The 2011 Canadian Championships concluded on August 14 in Blainville. See results, game by game summaries, newspaper articles and tournament story. Pictures will follow soon.

August 9, 2011 - REMINDER! 2011 Canadian Championships Opening Ceremonies will be held on Thursday August 11, from 9:00 to 10:00. Honorary President Yvan Cournoyer has confirmed his presence. The schedule has been slightly modified (the classes affected are: Sr Men's 40', Men's A-C-D). Our August Photo of the Month shows the group of Juniors from the 1999 Canadian Championships held in Waterloo, Quebec.

July 23, 2011 - The total entry is now up to 241 (two additions and one withdrawal). One player was also moved to the Senior Men's 40ft division. SO the 2011 Canadian Championships schedule (participants playing times) has been slightly modified. The classes affected are: Men's D-E-F; Sr40 and Women's B.

July 21, 2011 - The 2011 Canadian Championships schedule (participants playing times) is now available.

July 19, 2011 - More tournament results have been added in the "Major Tournament Results" section.
There are 240 entries for the 2011 Canadian Championships. The schedule will be available very soon.

July 15, 2011 - Canstats updated as of July 10, 2011. Some tournament results have also been added in the "Major Tournament Results" section.

July 12, 2011 - 2011 Canadian Championships: we've updated the list of entries received so far (as of July 12). There are already 197 names so far and around 40 from the Blainville League will soon be added to the list.
IMPORTANT MESSAGE ABOUT CAMPING: 14 more sites with services have been added to the 20 already mentioned. For only $35 (for the whole stay) you can camp onsite. For details, see the information page about Camping. We reply quickly to the requests, so if you don't get an answer from us please give us a phone call as emails sometimes don't get through.

July 10, 2011 - 2011 Canadian Championships: we've updated the list of entries received so far (as of July 9). Other updates will follow as the entries will be coming in. For those who have regrets, your entry form can still be mailed on Monday July 11!

July 5, 2011 - 2011 Canadian Championships: Yvan Cournoyer, former Montreal Canadians hockey star, is the Honorary President of the Championships. He has confirmed his presence for the Opening Ceremonies on Thursday August 11.

Sept. 13, 2010 - Horseshoe pitching was televised on Friday morning September 10, 2010. The reporter Daniel Melancon and his team, from "Salut Bonjour" (TVA), filmed Quebec federation pitchers on Labour Day in "parc Masson" in Montreal. The televised report can be viewed here on TVA's website (in french).

Sept. 9, 2010 - Canstats updated as of Sept. 9. The B.C. Championship results were added on Sept. 8. Speaking of the B.C Provincials, here is a video available from CKPG-TV titled "Horseshoes: More Skill Than Luck". July 16, 2010 - Special announcement: The 6th Annual Easter Seals Horseshoe Tournament is being hosted by the Elgin Horseshoe Pitching Club on July 24th. The day's proceeds will support "Easter Seals' Send A Kid To Camp" campaign, and will help send local kids living with physical disabilities to Camp Merrywood in Perth. Click here for details.

July 16, 2010 - 2010 Canadian Championship section updated with the addition of the 2010 Annual General Meeting Agenda. The AGM will be held at the Victoria Horseshoe Club – Club House on Tuesday, Aug, 10th at 1:30 p.m. See also our July photo of the month.

Feb. 26, 2008 - We are very sad to report the passing of Bernie Baetz, a long time volunteer from the Kitchener-Waterloo Khaki Club in Wellesley and former Horseshoe Ontario President. He passed away on Monday February 25. More details to come.

Here are the details: Appreciation Night for Jean Markle Saturday Sept. 22, 2007. Hamilton Horseshoe Club 170 Brockley Drive Hamilton Cost is $10.00 which includes supper and a band to play later. November 29, 2006 - Our new picture of the month for December shows the top 3 finalists (Men's) at the 1990 Canadian Championships. Among them is Marvin Ellison. On a sad note, we learned that Marvin is very seriously ill. We prepared a special dedicated to him. We're thinking of you!

November 1, 2006 - Our new picture of the month for November is about the 1976 Men's World Championship group. The minutes of the 2006 Horseshoe Canada AGM were also added. We also added a section about the 2007 Canadian Championships set for July 10-14 in Woodstock, Ontario.

October 2, 2006 - The Toll of Time section has been updated with more information on Ed Murray, who is featured in our "photo of the month". We also added the Manitoba Provincial results and Alberta Memorial in the Major tournament results page (2006).

August 5, 2006 - A 2006 World Tournament Story can be found in the 2006 Major Tournament Results section. Lucille Leis is the new Senior Ladies World Champion!

August 4, 2006 - A 2006 Canadian Championships Story has been added. Among the highlights, we must mention Duncan McKenzie who became the first Maritimer to win the Men's Canadian Championship. The Prince Albert Daily Herald carried an article on Sheena Dubyk, the 2006 Junior Girls Champion (article available here soon). We hope to add pictures from this memorable tournament in a few weeks.

August 3, 2006 - The 2006 Canadian Champions are known. The lists of champions have been updated. The results of the Alberta and New Brunswick provincials have been added.

December 19, 2005 - Duke Proctor, our oldest horseshoe pitcher to ever participate at the Canadian Championships passed away on December 14. See the toll of time section. The 2006 tournament schedule for the province of B.C. is now available.

December 5, 2005 - Information about the 2006 Canadian Championships in Manitou Beach now available. Horseshoe Saskatchewan also has own website (http://www.horseshoesask.ca).

May 30, 2005 - Results of the 17th Annual Elmer Hohl Ringer Classic are in. Main winners are Andre Leclerc (Men), Sylvianne Moisan (Women), Drew Becker (Jr Boys), Joanna Vienneau (Jr Girls) and Bernie Ashton (Sr Men's 30'). There were 135 entries. See the Major Tournament Results (2005) section.

May 24, 2005 - Results of the B.C. International are in. Buddy Dyrda (Mens) and Elyse Brunelle (Women) are the main winners. See the Major Tournament Results (2005) section.
Tournaments schedules were also added for Saskatchewan, Nova Scotia and Manitoba.

May 16, 2005 - Ontario takes 3rd position in Team World 2005. Team Ontario, made of Lucille Leis, Stan Leis, Sandy Janssens and Kevin McLachlin, was eliminated by Michigan (3 wins to 1). Colorado beat Michigan to take first place. See the Major Tournament Results (2005) section.
In the same section, you'll also see the Line-up of the 2005 Elmer Hohl Ringer Classic.

April 12, 2005 - Grace Fanjoy, wife of former Horseshoe Canada President, Bob Fanjoy, passed away. See her profile in the toll of time section.

March 29, 2005 - Fernand Dutremble, former President of the Quebec Horseshoe Federation passed away on March 24, 2005 at age 77. See his profile in the toll of time section.

March 8, 2005 - Some "artifacts" were added in that section of the virtual Hall of Fame (mainly old newspaper clippings).

February 15, 2005 - The 2005 Major Tournaments' page is now available along with entry forms for some of those majors (Elmer Hohl Ringer Classic, Ontario provincials, Canadian and World Championships).

February 7, 2005 - Don Griffith's profile, the 2004 HC Hall of Fame inductee, has been added in the Hall of Fame section.

September 20, 2004 - The results of the Quebec Provincial Singles and Merv Lichty Memorial were added in the 2004 Major tournament results page.

September 7, 2004 - The results of the Alberta and the B.C. Provincial Singles were added in the 2004 Major tournament results page. Note that 17 year-old Buddy Dyrda won his first B.C. Men's title! The Quebec provincial complete results are not available yet but we do know that Jean-Pierre Renaud and Lucie Thibault are the new champs.

August 24, 2004 - The results of the Ontario Provincial Singles, and Manitoba Provincial Singles Championships were added in the 2004 Major Tournament Results page.

August 12, 2004 - Congratulations to the Victoria HC for a successful Canadian chgampionships. Congratulations also to our Canadians who participated at the World Tournament. June 29, 2004 - It is again with sadness we report that Don Griffith, from Calgary, passed away on Saturday, June 26, 2004 at the age of 72 years. See the "Toll of Time" section for more information about this great volunteer and former Canadian Senior 30' Champion.

June 21, 2004 - It is with sadness that we report that Geraldine "Gerri" Bigham passed away on June 15th, 2004. See the "Toll of Time" section for more information about this former Canadian Champion.

June 16, 2004 - The list of Participants (classes and schedule) for the 2004 Canadians is online. Please check if your name is on the list! The result of the Ontario Provincial doubles were added in the Major Tournament Results page.

June 11, 2004 - The Vol. 28, 2004 Canadian Horseshoe Pitchers Yearbook is available. Copies can be obtained through the Provincial representatives or the Editor.

June 4, 2004 - The Agenda of the 2004 Horseshoe Canada AGM to be held July 13 is online. We also know by now that there are 1201 entries at the 2004 World Tournament including 41 from Canada, 1 from Japan and 1 from Norway! The World Tournament will be held in Pocatello, Idaho from July 26, August 7.

March 15, 2004 - The legendary Dean McLaughlin is gone. The 12-time Canadian champion passed away on February 27, 2004. More details provided by Dawn Morse can be found here. You can also take a look at his profile as Horseshoe Canada Hall of Fame member.

March 15, 2004 - A report on horseshoe pitching was shown on CBC Newsworld and its french counterpart RDI last week-end on Culture Shock (or Culture Choc). You can see here a picture of Stephanie Allaire the reporter while she was in Saint John.
